Firescape's mission is to aid utility companies in safeguarding critical infrastructure, and the communities they serve, by proactively managing and mitigating wildfire risks. Firescape was founded by two scientists from Sandia National Labs with deep experience in wildfire science and remote sensing.

The Role

As our Sales Engineer, you'll be the critical technical bridge between our product and electric utility customers. You'll partner with our sales team to understand customer challenges, demonstrate how Firescape's platform solves real-world wildfire risk problems, and build trusted relationships with utility engineers, operations teams, and decision-makers. This role combines deep technical expertise with exceptional communication skills—you'll need to speak the language of both utility operations and modern software platforms.

The ideal candidate has sold software solutions into electric utilities, understands the unique challenges of utility operations and regulatory environments, and can translate complex technical capabilities into clear business value. You're energized by customer conversations, comfortable presenting to rooms full of engineers, and skilled at turning technical discussions into actionable next steps.

Responsibilities

Customer Engagement & Technical Sales

  • Lead product demonstrations and technical presentations for utility stakeholders, from field engineers to C-suite executives
  • Conduct discovery sessions to understand customer wildfire risk challenges, operational constraints, and decision-making processes
  • Build and maintain relationships with technical champions within utility organizations

Product Expertise & Solution Design

  • Become a deep expert on Firescape's platform capabilities, including geospatial analytics, wildfire modeling, PSPS decision support, and grid hardening optimization
  • Design tailored solutions that address specific utility needs, considering factors like territory characteristics, regulatory requirements, and existing technology stacks
  • Stay current on utility industry trends, wildfire mitigation regulations, and competitive landscape
  • Provide feedback to product and engineering teams based on customer insights and market needs

Sales Support & Collaboration

  • Manage CRM and create a sales pipeline
  • Represent Firescape at tradeshows
  • Partner with account executives throughout the sales cycle, from initial outreach through contract close
  • Support contract negotiations by addressing technical and integration questions

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years of experience in a sales engineering, solutions engineering, or technical sales role at a software company serving electric utilities
  • Technical background with understanding of utility operations, grid infrastructure, and/or GIS systems
  • Proven track record of supporting complex B2B software sales cycles in the utility sector
  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills—comfortable presenting to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and customer-centric mindset
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously
  • Willingness to travel (30-40%) for customer meetings, conferences, and industry events
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
  • Connections within the electric utility industry

Nice to Have

  • Experience with wildfire mitigation, PSPS programs, or grid resilience initiatives
  • Background in electrical engineering, power systems, or utility operations
  • Familiarity with geospatial technologies, remote sensing, or machine learning applications
  • Understanding of utility regulatory frameworks
  • Experience with SaaS platforms, APIs, and cloud-based solutions
  • Prior startup or fast-paced environment experience
